Those carvings that often went on the bow of a Official Squad goals shirt, usually part of or below the bowsprit, where called figureheads, not mastheads. Bowsprits are spars, not masts. The terms bow, bowsprit, spar figurehead, mast, and masthead meant different things and Google seems to have them mixed up. One clue is that the bowsprit or figurehead are clearly not on or part of masts. Mastheads were the top of masts where you typically put your flag, colors, or other insignia. Of course we saw a random Klingon scientist every now and then, but that doesn’t change the fact that most people running their starships and keeping their society running seem to be more interested in having a good fight and possibly dying while doing it.
