If you carry a knife (which is illegal, as is drink driving, reckless driving and stealing a motor vehicle) and you stab someone and they die, you will go to jail for a minimum of 25 years. So why not apply the same if you deliberately get into a car whilst under the influence of drink or drugs; or drive recklessly, particularly if trying to get away from the police rather than stopping for them; or steal a car? They are all just as illegal as carrying a knife so I don’t see why there should be a difference in charging and sentencing. Nine years is an insult. How can a child’s life be worth nine years in prison? With the potential for early release? He should rot in a cell for life. Sincere condolences to the little girl’s family, the death penalty should be bought back life for a life, if anyone kills another person whatever the circumstance is they should pay the ultimate price to, why should killers languish in prison for years at the taxpayer’s expense.
