We get told to stop stimming even when it does not affect anyone else or I am a Veteran like my father and my Grandfather before me shirt and end up over sharing. We’re forced to conform to extremely confusing, often completely illogical societal norms that aren’t hard wired into us the same way they are for neurotypicals, then blamed and shamed when we slip up and act the wrong way according to how they think people should act. We get accused of lacking empathy due to expressing it differently when neurotypicals are often the ones who are unable to have empathy for anyone not just like themselves.
