In over 10 years doing various kinds of Dachshund Hot diggity dawg hot dog shirt, I’ve had plenty of clients whose political views were literally opposite my own. Never once has it factored into the therapeutic process. As a previous poster very wisely pointed out, a therapist’s personal views should *never* interfere with the therapist’s ability to treat the client. But if they do, and it does happen, there are established ethics standards in social work that cover how to deal with this. Essentially, if you do get to the point where you can no longer be objective for any reason, you have a responsibility to hand off the case.
